The website of the Mersea Island Horticultural Society

Welcome to the website of the Mersea Island Horticultural Society (MIHS).  The society aims to inform, support and entertain people with an interest in gardening in its many forms.  The Mersea Island Garden Club is the online 'window' of the Horticultural Society.

Why not come along to see us - we are a very friendly bunch.  You don't need to be a horticultural expert with a vast knowledge of Latin names (although experts are welcome too!) - just an interest in gardens and plants - whether it be vegetables or flowers - or both.  The Society normally meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month - visit the Monthly Meetings page for times, dates and locations of where our meetings are held.

Forthcoming Events

bulletTuesday 4 December 2018: MEMBERSí CHRISTMAS PARTY AND AGM. PLEASE BRING A SMALL PLATE OF FOOD. Admission is free to members.

Starts 7:30pm at Mersea Museum

Please note: Our 2019 show will be our 100th show and we are planning a few things to celebrate this. One idea is to produce a cookery book. We would like some old recipes, using garden produce where possible. These can be given to Caitriona Banting at 9 Beach Road. Please put your name on your recipe. The cookery book will cover all 4 Seasons.

We are also looking for any old press cuttings or information about old Mersea Island Horticultural Society shows, or any old tools etc, for a display next summer at the museum. If you have any of the above then please talk to a member of the committee.

MIHS Committee

If you feel you could contribute something to the society by volunteering to be on the committee, please do not hesitate. We are still short of members, as some of the current committee feel they would like to step down soon and would be happy to train a newcomer to their post to help them settle in. Full committee meetings are informal and friendly, held every couple of months, and anyone interested in coming along on a trial basis is cordially invited to contact secretary Judith Kirkby, phone 01206 384727, for a chat.
