A Message from the Chairman
A packed MICA Centre
thoroughly enjoyed the talk entitled "Plants from the Edge of the
World" by our guest speaker, Tony Kirkham, on Tuesday 17th April.
What a wonderful evening it turned out to be with Tony having the audience
enthralled with his stories of seed and plant collecting in the temperate
loop of east Asia to replace specimens at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
lost in the great storm of 1987. There is a chance that Tony will return
next year to deliver his lecture on all matters relating to choosing and
planting trees in the garden - watch this space!
Our next event is our
stand at the Mersea Island Food, Drink and Leisure Festival over the
weekend of 2nd and 3rd June where we will be selling plants to raise funds
for the Society. We would love to receive donations of plants from you and
these can be delivered to Marion Carvey at 53 St. Peters Road, West Mersea
(more details on 384830) in the week leading up to the festival.
Our summer garden party
will take place on Sunday 1st July 2012 in the gardens of Mary Crisp in
East Road, West Mersea (almost opposite the allotment site). More details
of this popular event will be available shortly. Keep checking this
website.
There are a few seats
available for the outing to Penshurst Place on Sunday 24th June 2012.
Contact Heather Cook for more details (see Outings
for more details).
Enjoy the summer!

Honorary Chairman
